A King is Coming

Listen Now

Opening Prayer

Lord, you humbled yourself to come among us in human flesh, and opened the way to salvation.

Scripture

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!

Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!

Behold, your king is coming to you;

righteous and having salvation is he,

humble and mounted on a donkey,

on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

Zechariah 9:9

Reflection

Holy Spirit, kindle the flame of our faith. Grow us in joy. By your gracious visitation, lighten the darkness of our hearts.

Prayer

LORD, there is truly none like you.

The Ancient of Days. Before all, you.

King of Kings. Lord of Lords.

Yet you empty yourself.

Creator becomes created.

You lower yourself.

Taking on the form of a slave.

From the highest of highs.

To the lowest of lows.

The wisdom of this age tells us"Exhibit your grandeur for all to see, It is the fulfillment of all you are ".

Yet we find in you greater riches.

You have revealed to us true life.

What else can we do but rejoice?

We cry out with all our heart!

Our King is coming to us!

He is Righteous!

He is Victorious! Look!

You won't find a grand procession, No pomp or circumstance.

Though all glory is due to you, Your entrance is humble.

The victory is yours!

You have banished the battles.

Your procession enters the gates.

Proclaiming peace to all nations.

Not on war horse adorned.

No, your steed enters un-triumphantly.

You ride in glory upon a donkey.

Yes our King enters on a lowly donkey's colt

[No clever talk nor gift to bring Requires our lowly, loving king. Come, all empty-handed. You don't need anything]*

Closing Prayer

Behold we are the servants of the Lord. Let it be to us according to your word. May we rest in the peace that the darkness can never extinguish the light that has been given to us.
